The 12-17 Baltimore Orioles have won four of five as they head to St. Louis to open a series with the 16-12 Cardinals tonight at 7:45 PM EST.

St. Louis has lost two in a row but had won five of six prior to that, as they return home after a brief road trip. Adam Wainwright was scheduled to pitch today but was placed on the COVID list. The Cardinals are hopeful he'll be activated before tonight's game but if he's not, it seems most likely that Miles Mikolas would pitch instead. It's possible they'd go with a bullpen game, but we'll update you here as soon as we receive official word.

Whoever pitches for the Cardinals will be opposed by Kyle Bradish, who sports a 5.40 ERA through two starts. He was impressive against Boston in his season debut but lost the handle against Minnesota, giving up four runs in four innings.

Can Bradish earn his first career victory or will the Cardinals emerge as winners behind uh, whoever is going to pitch?

Let's examine the consensus odds to help find some value in this Orioles vs Cardinals matchup:

Orioles vs Cardinals Odds, Run Line and Total

Run Line:

  • Orioles +1.5 (-156)
  • Cardinals -1.5 (+138)

Moneyline:

  • Orioles: +136
  • Cardinals: -162

Total:

  • 8.0 (Over -110/Under -110)

Orioles vs Cardinals Prediction and Pick

Hey, Baltimore might not be bad anymore! They're won four of five and suddenly have one of the best offenses in baseball:

I don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but half of those games did come against Kansas City and their 27th-ranked team ERA. Progress is progress though! Baltimore fans have to be happy.

That being said, the Cardinals have a significant advantage regardless of who pitches for them today. Both Wainwright and Mikolas are strides better than Bradish at this point, and Mikolas in particular has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season.

The Orioles haven't played a road game since April 28th, and they're 3-10 away from home on the year. Seven of those 10 losses came by multiple runs, and Bradish's pitching profile from Baseball Savant hardly inspires confidence:

Yeesh, that's not pretty. The Cardinals have averaged six runs per game over their last five and should have no problem lighting Bradish up today. Or at the least, they should score enough that Wainwright, Mikolas, or whoever can take care of business on the other side.

St. Louis is 9-4 as a favorite with seven of those wins coming by multiple runs. They get it done on the run line today.

Pick: Cardinals -1.5 (+138)
