Baltimore has won three straight and has taken the first two games of their four-game series in Chicago. In the 4-1 O’s win, Austin Voth and four relievers combined to throw a one-hitter. The two teams are now even in the win column, Baltimore at 33-39, Chicago, 33-36.

Tonight, Chicago hands the ball to Lance Lynn. The big right-hander is making his third start of the year. Baltimore goes with Spenser Watkins for the ninth time in 2022. Watkins is 0-1.

Orioles vs. White Sox Prediction and Pick

Lance Lynn has returned to the mound, but has yet to return to form in 2022. Maybe he is still finding a rhythm, after two-straight starts allowing three earned runs without going beyond the fifth inning, or maybe at 35 he is entering a new stage of his career. A season ago Lynn posted a 2.69 ERA and struck out over 10 per nine innings.

The noticeable difference between this year and last is the fastball velocity for Lynn. A year ago he averaged 94.0 MPH and this season his heater is 92.6 on average. In this small sample that is 2022, the whiff rate is actually up on his 4-seamer, but when it is hit, it is hit hard. Opponents are slugging .700 on against that pitch. This has led him to throw the pitch 10% less and rely more on a sinker which the opposition is hitting .500 against.

Maybe it comes back for Lynn, but he has his work cut out for him against a hot Baltimore team. The Orioles have won seven of 10 and have outscored opponents by 20 runs in that time.

Spenser Watkins has struggled on the mound lately, last time out he could not even record an out before giving up three runs and getting pulled. Even though the White Sox offense has struggled in their last two against Baltimore, they are still hitting .300 over their last ten games.

Pick: Over 9.0 (-120)
