It might be time to P-A-N-I-C in Green Bay after the Packers fell to 3-5 on Sunday Night Football. It was a 27-17 loss in Buffalo, but not many expected an Aaron Rodgers led team to be two games under .500 through eight weeks. I certainly didn’t see it coming. Their bye week isn’t until week 14, but they have something better waiting for them in Week 9, the 1-6 Detroit Lions. Dan Campbell’s bunch of kneecap biters can’t seem to win any games even after such a strong performance on Hard Knocks.

This might be just what the voodoo doctor ordered for Aaron Rodgers (we know that he won't listen to a real doctor’s orders), so let’s take a look at what Vegas thinks about this Week 9 NFC North matchup.

Packers vs. Lions Odds, Spread and Total

Detroit and Green Bay Betting Trends

  • Detroit is 3-4 ATS
  • Detroit’s games are 5-2 to the over
  • Green Bay is 3-5 ATS
  • The Over is 6-0 in Green Bay’s last six games vs. team with a losing record
  • Home Team is 5-0 in last five matchups

Packers vs. Lions Prediction and Pick

Aaron Rodgers desperately needs to get the Packers passing game going and the Lions allow 8.1 yards per attempt to their opponents. That is the worst in the NFL. Their passing defense has been bad and their run defense is not much better. They allow 5.1 yards per carry, which is the fifth worst in the league. They have allowed the second most touchdowns on the ground.

In Week 8, Tua Tagovailoa threw for 382 yards and three touchdowns against Detroit. Yes, he has Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, but Aaron Rodgers should be able to at least come close to that production with Romeo Doubs and Allen Lazard.

Regardless, he is Aaron Rodgers and he has to start scoring points. I don’t believe he is fully washed and if I’m right he should score on Detroit with high schoolers at receiver. At least, the running game got going against Buffalo, Aaron Jones went for 143 yards on 20 carries.

Detroit’s offense can score too, it put an end to its scoreless drought on Sunday and will run the ball on Green Bay. The Packers do not allocate nearly enough resources to stopping the run and that has led them to allow the third most rushing yards in the league. D’Andre Swift is coming back from an injury and might not see his full complement of touches, but we know that Jamaal Williams will be able to move the ball for the Lions as well.

Pick: Over 49 (-107)
