Padres vs. Braves Prediction and Odds for Friday, May 13 (Predicting a Pitching Duel on Friday)
By Matt De Saro
Two-second place teams go head to head at Truist Park on Friday when the San Diego Padres head to Atlanta to face off against the Braves. Each team is currently runner up in their respective divisions and is desperate to take over the top spot
The Padres enter this three-game series after losing two of three to the Cubs earlier in the week. It was a rough series for the Friars’ pitching who allowed the Cubs to plate a total of 17 runs in that series. The losses moved the Padres' record to 4-4 in their last eight games. Not bad, but it's no way to gain ground in the NL West race.
The Braves are dealing with similar issues of consistency after losing six of their last 11 games straight up.

Padres vs. Braves Prediction and Pick
The odds suggest this will be a tight game and I have to agree. Both pitchers are playing very well right now and it will be tough for either team to score runs tonight.
Yu Darvish gets the start for the Padres. While I would consider him the second-best starter tonight, he still has a 4.05 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 33 ⅓ innings. His ERA is high thanks to a brutal nine-run first inning against the Giants earlier in the season. Other than that disaster, he's been very good with two shutout performances. In his last four starts, Darvish has given up a combined six runs over 25 ⅔ innings.
And while these numbers are good, Max Fried has been better. Fried enters this series with a 4-2 record, 2.68 ERA, and 0.84 WHIP. His ERA is also misleading due to an early-season implosion. Overall he has been very strong and continues to look like one of the best young-ish talents in the Major Leagues.
I don’t feel like I can trust either team to shine here on offense. I think the pitching on both sides will be fantastic and keep this game as low-scoring as possible.
Pick: UNDER 6.5 (-105)
