The Atlanta Braves host the San Diego Padres today at 4:05 PM EST in the second contest of a three-game set.

Both teams have been middling of late but have pitchers they're confident in on the mound. Charlie Morton will start for the Braves and he's coming off his best outing of the season. In five scoreless innings, Morton limited the Brewers to two hits while striking out five. He gave up five runs and nine hits to the Padres last month but hopes to have some momentum going this time around.

San Diego will counter with Sean Manaea, who has slowed down a bit in recent weeks but still has a quality start in five of his six outings this year.

Can Manaea keep stringing together strong outings or will Morton build off his performance against Milwaukee to get Atlanta a home win?

Let's take a gander at the odds from our friends at WynnBET Sportsbook to help find out ahead of this Padres vs Braves matchup:

Padres vs Braves Prediction and Pick

This is a game in which the Padres just have the matchup edge.

Padres' starter Sean Manaea doesn't throw particularly hard, but he ranks in the 75th percentile in chase rate and relies on movement outside of the zone to frustrate hitters. Atlanta is 29th in MLB in strikeouts per game, so he should see a lineup ready to fall for his tricks.

On the other end, Charlie Morton is excellent at creating movement in his pitches, as evidenced by his 98th-percentile ranking in curve spin and 82nd-percentile score in fastball spin. But he's in just the fifth percentile in chase rate and 16th in walk rate, so patient hitters can overcome his deception.

San Diego just so happens to have perhaps the most patient lineup in the league. They're second in walks per game and first in walks per game on the road, so they're actually more comfortable behind enemy lines. Morton hasn't made it through the sixth inning yet this season, and the Padres' approach should force him to throw a lot of pitches to make for a quick outing.

Manaea has a 2.97 ERA in three starts on the road, going at least six innings in all of them. The Padres entered this series having won 10 of their last 14 away from home and they have the advantage in this one as well.

Pick: Padres (MONEYLINE IF -150 OR LOWER, RUN LINE OTHERWISE)
