The Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres continue their four-game weekend set this afternoon after splitting the first two games. But, I’d say the Padres have the upper hand after a brutal 7-0 shutout last night to even things up at 1-1. Joe Musgrove dominated this lineup, carrying a no-hitter into the 8th and embarrassing Milwaukee at home. I think the Brewers are in for another rough night at the plate with Mackenzie Gore on the hill for San Diego.

Padres vs. Brewers Prediction and Pick

Makenzie Gore has been the best pitcher on the Padres not named Joe Musgrove with a 1.71 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 42 innings. The rookie lefthander has been tagged for just one run over his last three starts spanning 16 innings. He hasn’t given up a home run since his first start on April 15 and sports a phenomenal K/BB of 3.4. The Padres have something special here and I think the Brewers are going to have a bear of a time getting much done at the plate. Milwaukee ranks 24th in batting average and 20th in OBP. The Brewers rely heavily on the long ball and rank second in the league with 70. But Gore hasn’t given up a home run in more than a month and is locked in right now.

The Brewers are not without weapons to fight back with mind you. They will start Aaron Ashby in this spot after back-to-back solid starts. Ashby has worked out of the bullpen this year a bit and is making his sixth start of the year. Ashby has given up a single earned run since the end of April with the lone score coming off a Willson Contreas home run on Monday. While they do score well, the Padres rank 20th in batting average.

With two teams outside the top 20 teams in BA along with two red-hot pitchers, I like the under here despite the low number.

Pick: UNDER 7 (-105)
