Padres vs. Diamondbacks Prediction and Odds (Trust Manaea In First Start With New Club)
By Joe Summers
After a thrilling 4-2 comeback win culminating in a three-run, walk-off home run by Seth Beer, the Arizona Diamondbacks hope for another victory as they host the San Diego Padres today at 9:40 PM EST.
The Padres' bullpen was a question mark heading into the season and things couldn't have gone worse yesterday, as the Diamondbacks scored four runs in the ninth inning with only one hit following a series of walks and wild pitches.
In an effort to rebound, San Diego will send newly-acquired Sean Manaea to the mound. A potential Cy Young candidate, Manaea had a 3.91 ERA over 179+ innings last year with 194 strikeouts.
The Diamondbacks will counter with Merrill Kelly, whose 4.44 ERA was one of the better marks on a woeful Arizona rotation last year.
Can Arizona get back-to-back upset wins or will Manaea lead the Padres to a victory in his first start? Let's check out the odds from WynnBET to help us find out:

- Diamondbacks: +1.5 (-130)
Moneyline:

Padres vs. Diamondbacks Prediction and Pick
I love the Manaea acquisition for the Padres and think he has the chance for a big year. He's playing for a familiar face in manager Bob Melvin, who coached him in Oakland, and allowed 2 or fewer runs in four of his final six starts last year.
That's a large contrast to Kelly, who allowed at least four in three of his last four starts and is capable of being beaten around, even by a bad Padres offense.
Last night's loss was a huge gut punch for San Diego, who quite literally gave the game away in the final moments. Their bullpen absolutely terrifies me and bettors would be wise to look for live value fading the Padres throughout the season.
But Manaea is much better than Kelly. So how about we look to the first five innings for a bet instead of the full game? I love first five bets because they take the bullpen out of things and allow us to rely on only the starters. We know who is taking the first pitch, but whoever is called out of the bullpen is anybody's guess.
So I'm taking the Padres -.5 in the first five innings (+105). I think San Diego can get to Kelly early and Manaea can limit the damage in his first start in a new uniform.
Pick: Padres First Five Innings -0.5 (+105)
