Padres vs. Diamondbacks Prediction and Odds for Opening Day (Fade Madison Bumgarner at Home)
By Peter Dewey
We won’t get to see Fernando Tatis Jr. on Opening Day, but the San Diego Padres are still in action against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Yu Darvish will take the mound for San Diego against Madison Bumgarner, and the Padres are slight favorites on the road at WynnBET.
While Arizona is expected to be one of the worst teams in baseball this season, oddsmakers think they have a chance to win on Opening Day.
Let’s break down the odds and make a pick for this matchup.
Padres vs. Diamondbacks Odds, Run Line and Total
Run Line:
- Padres -1.5 (+120)
- Diamondbacks +1.5 (-140)
Moneyline:
- Padres: -133
- Diamondbacks: +123
Total:
- 8.5 (Over -125/Under +105)
Padres vs. Diamondbacks Prediction and Pick
MadBum simply wasn’t good last season, going 7-10 with a 4.67 earned run average, and there’s no way I’m backing him against a vaunted Padres lineup, even without Tatis.
Darvish faded down the stretch of the 2021 season as well, but he should be fresh entering Thursday’s matchup, which is a good sign for the Padres. The Diamondbacks are projected to win less than 70 games this season, so I love getting San Diego to get a win as a slight favorite.
The Padres are simply too deep to question their lineup without Tatis, and they went 20-12 without him last season. Fade MadBum until he shows us that he’s turning back the clock.
Lean: Padres Moneyline (-133)
