All of the talent that the San Diego Padres have somehow led to a sub-.500 record in 2021. The San Francisco Giants have surprisingly compiled 106 wins, tied for most in franchise history with the 1906 New York Giants, which were led by Hall-of-Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson and Hall-of-Fame manager John McGraw. Will the Giants set a new franchise record in wins today?

San Diego sends Joe Musgrove (11-9, 3.22 ERA) to the bump today. The right-hander has failed to get past the sixth inning in his last two starts, which includes his Sept. 21st start against San Francisco; 5 ⅔ innings, eight hits, five earned runs, three walks, and six strikeouts in a no-decision.

The Giants have tabbed Kevin Gausman (14-6, 2.87 ERA) for the start today. Gausman is coming off a solid performance; six innings, three hits, one earned run and 11 strikeouts against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field on Sept. 26th.

Padres vs. Giants Prediction

Musgrove and Gausman are both very reliable starters but have had issues with each opposing team. Musgrove has allowed a .298 average against San Francisco, having particular trouble putting away shortstop Brandon Crawford, who has three hits in seven at-bats against Musgrove, including a home run. Whereas Gausman has allowed a .277 average against San Diego, with second baseman Adam Frazier batting .636 (7-for-11), outfielder Tommy Pham batting .556 (5-for-9), and shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. batting .455 (5-for-11).

I’ll give the edge to the Giants bullpen that has posted the lowest ERA in the Major Leagues.

I’m taking San Francisco to win their 107th game at -160.
