The San Diego Padres, although 8.5 games back of the divisional lead, are in firm control of their playoff destiny. The Colorado Rockies, however, are 8 games back of the final playoff spot.

According to playoffstatus.com, Colorado has a 99% chance of missing the playoffs. The Rockies have a lot to overcome and wins in the division are crucial.

Can they take a step towards pulling off the impossible with their third consecutive win over their division rival?

Padres vs. Rockies Prediction and Odds

Don’t let Blake Snell’s 4.66 ERA fool you. He’s in a groove right now. Over his last two starts, he’s struck out 23 batters over 11 innings and only given up two runs. He’s flipped a switch in July and it’s the main reason why I’m backing the Padres on the road.

If Snell continues to rack up double-digit strikeouts and only give up one run per game, the Padres are cooking with grease.

Meanwhile, Kyle Freeland has given up more runs in the last two games than he’s struck out. He doesn’t have great control right now, and I think the Padres will be able to hit some balls off of him.

This game is simple. Trust Snell and fade Freeland.

Lean: Padres ML (-130)
