The San Diego Padres are reeling a bit after a two-game sweep at the hands of the Guardians. They are losers of four of six and now head to the midwest to face the Kansas City Royals. Tonight is Game 1 of a three-game series between San Diego and Kansas City.

Joe Musgrove takes the mound for the Padres and Kris Bubic opposes him for the Royals. It is Musgrove’s 23rd start and Bubic’s 21st.

Padres vs. Royals Prediction and Pick

San Diego has struggled recently despite facing a rather soft schedule. In 10 games with Washington and Miami, the Padres only went 5-5. They should have been able to really separate themselves in the Wild Card race, but instead are the third Wild Card team only 1.5 games up on the Brewers.

The Padres have pitched well, but their offense has let them down. Over the last ten days they have an ERA of 3.17, but rank 26th in OPS. However, the good news for San Diego is that the Royals rank 29th in OPS.

Joe Musgrove has pitched well for San Diego lately and while Kris Bubic has really struggled for KC, I think fading the offenses in this one is the way to go. Either both teams struggle and the under cashes easily or the Padres bats will wake up and they will cover the run line easily.

Pick: Under 8.5 (-130)
