The San Diego Padres were a preseason favorite to be the 2023 World Series champion, but they've been a disappointment for the large majority of the MLB season.

The good news is they still have time, albeit not a lot, to turn things around and make the postseason.

Luckily, they have a three game weekend series against the lowly Tigers to try to find some momentum. Can they get the series started off with a win? I think so.

Let's dive into the odds.

Padres vs. Tigers prediction and pick

The good news for the Padres is their offense is starting to wake up.

Over the last 30 days, they rank seventh in major League Baseball in OPS at .777. That's going to be important on Friday when they take on Reese Olson of the Tigers,w ho has been putting together a strong season for Detroit.

With that being said, he has stumbled at times when made to start games, including his last outing against the Mariners when he allowed six hits and two earned runs in 5.1 innings. His 3.96 ERA is a little bit deceiving due to his strong play when used as releiver at times throughout the 2023 campaign.

Seth Lugo gets the start for the Padres, and it's important to note how much better he has been on the road compared to at home this season. His ERA and WHIP improves from 4.25 and 1.382 at home to 3.43 and 1.144 on the road.

Now, he gets to tee-off on a Tigers offense that's 27th in OPS over the last 30 days.

Let's jump on the Padres as road favorites on Friday.
