Padres vs. Tigers prediction and odds for Sunday, July 23 (Target total)
By Reed Wallach
The San Diego Padres continue its climb up the National League standings against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, and will count on one of its best to do so.
Joe Musgrove is pitching like a Cy Young candidate since the start of June, pitching to a 1.80 in his last nine starts. He now faces one of the most lackluster offenses in the big leagues in the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. Can he keep it up? Here are the odds:

Padres vs. Tigers prediction and pick
Musgrove has been on a roll, and I doubt he finds issues against this Tigers lineup. Detroit is hitting .229 over the last 30 days, per MLB.com, and ranks 27th in OPS. The team is struggling to generate anything at the dish and Musgrove is in line to keep it rolling on the mound. The right hander is striking out nearly five batters for every walk he is dishing out this season.
However, I believe the Tigers' starter Alex Faedo is up to the task against a Padres lineup that continues to underwhelm. San Diego hasn't hit well all season, hitting just .237 as a unit, but is buoyed by the highest walk rate in baseball. Faedo has been able to limit mistakes this season, dishing out just over one walk per nine innings.
Faedo may have a 6.98 ERA through his first six big league starts, but his xERA if half of that, just 3.97. Musgrove has a noted pitching advantage, but Faedo can match it on Sunday. I'll back the under.
