After a 12-4 drubbing by the Tigers yesterday, the Padres have now lost eight of 10 as road favorites, including four straight. They hope to change their fortunes with Mike Clevinger on the mound today. He's coming off six strong innings against the Diamondbacks in which he allowed just one run.

Detroit turns to Garrett Hill making his fourth career start. Two of his first three starts went well, allowing just four runs total over 11 innings. But he did surrender six runs to the White Sox in his other one, so he'll need to maintain consistency moving forward.

Can the Tigers, who have won seven of nine as home underdogs, pick up another upset victory over the struggling Padres? Let's check out the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook to help find out:

Padres vs Tigers Odds, Run Line and Total

Run Line:

  • Padres -1.5 (-120)
  • Tigers +1.5 (+100)

Moneyline:

  • Padres: -185
  • Tigers: +170

Total:

  • 8.0 (Over -130/Under -110)

Padres vs Tigers Prediction and Pick

The Padres know they can't afford to lose two straight to the lowly Tigers, so we should get Mike Clevinger's best outing today. San Diego has lost each of his last three starts as he's compiled a 4.67 ERA this month, but I anticipate a strong performance in this one.

Despite yesterday's barrage, make no mistake that the Tigers' lineup is pathetic. Detroit has the worst OPS in MLB against right-handed pitchers over the last three weeks, so don't get too excited about a broken clock being right yesterday.

Clevinger is due for a nice game as well, with a 3.61 expected ERA. At the least, I have more confidence in him than Garrett Hill, who has a 5.30 expected ERA thus far.

With that being said, I think it's a good day to fade both offenses. Slight wind coming in from center field should mitigate ball flight, and the under has been a strong bet in this spot recently. It's hit in three of Clevinger's last four starts and all three of Hill's.

After 18 runs were scored yesterday, I expect a step back from each club. Give me the under as Clevinger and Hill battle it out in a competitive contest.

Pick: Under 8.0 (-110)
