Carolina and Washington kick their preseason’s off this week. This is the first time we get to see both teams with their new quarterbacks – Baker Mayfield for Carolina and Carson Wentz for Washington.

The hopes for the season aren’t sky high on either side, but it feels like a make-it or break-it year for both coaches. Matt Rhule has to rebound from a terrible 2021, while Ron Rivera is tasked with turning around a defense that was a bust last season.

There’s a lot of intrigue around the top of both franchises, and Week 1 of the preseason can give us a few answers we’ve been waiting on.

Here are the odds for their matchup via WynnBET.

Panthers vs. Commanders Spread, Odds and Over/Under

Spread:

  • Panthers: +1 (-110)
  • Commanders: -1 (-110)

Moneyline:

  • Panthers: +100
  • Commanders: -120

Total: 37 (Over: -110/Under: -110)

Panthers vs. Commanders Prediction and Pick

This is going to be an interesting quarterback battle. Both teams will likely give a majority of the playing to their new draft picks, Sam Howell and Matt Corral. This will be their first look at NFL football, so don’t expect either to light it up in their debut.

In terms of the skill position players, I like the Panthers’ position players more than the Commanders. Carolina also has the advantage, in my opinion, with D’onta Foreman getting my stamp of approval over rookie Brian Robinson.

Both coaches are also .500 ATS in their careers – but that’s with only one year of experience for Matt Rhule.

Overall, these are two similar situations, so I’ll take a chance on the underdog.

Pick: Panthers ML (+100)
