Panthers vs. Patriots Prediction, Odds, Spread, and Over/Under for NFL Preseason Week 2
By Josh Yourish
The Carolina Panthers got a look at all four of their quarterbacks in their Preseason Week 1 win. Not all of them had the same success, but they will try to build on it into their Week 2 matchup with the New England Patriots. Almost as if it was a Super Bowl, the Patriots lost to the Giants last week.
Both offenses put up over 20 points and looked functional in Week 1, so who will take the bigger step in Week 2 of the preseason. Let’s take a look at the odds from WynnBET.
Panthers vs. Patriots Odds, Spread and Total
Spread
- Panthers +2.5 (-105)
- Patriots -2.5 (-125)
Moneyline
- Panthers +125
- Patriots -145
Total
- 41 (Over -115 / Under -115)
Panthers vs. Patriots Prediction and Pick
The way to bet preseason football to me is to find the teams that have the best quarterbacks on the field. So, really we aren’t looking for Patrick Mahomes, we are looking for really good backups or poor starters who have to compete for their jobs. Anything to keep competent QBs on the field.
Mac Jones is the sure starter in New England and he didn’t see any action in Week 1. Bill Belichick may want to see his second-year starter out there in Week 2, but Brian Hoyer and Bailey Zappe will be the main guys behind center in this one.
Last week, Zappe went 19/32 for 205 yards and one touchdown. He also threw one interception.
Carolina will again use their four quarterbacks in Week 2. I called them a preseason dream team because of how many backup caliber guys they have, but Matt Corral really struggled. Corral went 1/9 for 11 yards and if that doesn’t improve then the Panthers could offense could sputter the rest of preseason.
Regardless of Corral’s problems, the Panthers still have Sam Darnold and P.J. Walker behind Baker Mayfield and that is enough for me to ride them again.
Pick: Panthers +125
