The New Orleans Saints are out for revenge against the Carolina Panthers after getting beat 26-7 in Week 2. A lot has changed since then, including the look of both offenses and the quarterbacks who lead them. The Saints were without several players and coaches due to COVID-19 and the final score reflected that.

Now, the Saints are not fully healthy, but with the Panthers on a five-game losing streak, they might not have to be. After a stunning shutout win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Saints fell back to earth last week and were beaten handily by the Miami Dolphins 20-3 on Monday night.

The Saints are down to their 4th string QB in rookie Ian Book, who was intercepted twice and suffered eight sacks against Miami. Book started for New Orleans after 16 players were placed on the COVID-19 reserve list including quarterbacks Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian. Starter Jaemis Winston suffered a season-ending injury weeks ago leaving this team without a real leader on offense. 

Carolina is dealing with their own fair share of issues heading into Week 17 and is a touchdown underdog at WynnBET Sportsbook on the road as of right now. Anything can happen in these division games and the Panthers are certainly capable of pulling off an upset.

Panthers vs. Saints Prediction and Pick

The Panthers enter Week 17 on a five-game losing streak against the spread; including a 32-6 blowout loss to the Buccaneers over the weekend. The Saints haven’t been as bad overall but did get smoked by the Dolphins 20-3. Both teams have had very hard seasons with injuries and COVID-19 absences. It is insane to think that the Saints are still in the running for a playoff spot after everything that has happened. So, at least they actually have something to play for. 

However, I am not sure they have what it takes this weekend much less enough to make a run at the playoffs. NO has scored 10 points or less in three of their last five games and is now 6-9 on the O/U line. With the issues that the Panthers have had on offense, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them fail to score double digits against the Saints.

While I don’t trust either of these teams to cover, I do trust them to underperform. Oddsmakers are thinking that this game will be low-scoring and I couldn’t agree more. Give me the under here.
