Houston Texans' 2021 third-round draft pick Davis Mills will likely make his first start of his career in Week 3 on Thursday Night Football against the 2-0 Carolina Panthers.

Mills came in for Tyrod Taylor in Week 2 to poor results, completing eight of 18 passes for 102 yards with a touchdown and interception.

Meanwhile, the Panthers defense looked fantastic for the second straight week, holding the Saints to seven points and generating two turnovers.

How should we bet Thursday Night Football with the odds placing Carolina as overwhelming favorites at WynnBET Sportsbook on the road?

Texans vs. Panthers Prediction and Pick

The Texans had the lowest win total in the NFL heading into the season, and while the team was able to score an upset win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1, this roster is still devoid of talent.

Now, with Taylor set to miss Week 3 with a hamstring injury, the team is going to Mills who will not be able to keep up with the Panthers pass rush that sacked Saints quarterback Jameis Winston four times in Week 2.

Carolina has an up-and-coming defense after spending all seven draft picks in 2020 on that side of the ball and selecting Jaycee Horn in the top 10 this past draft.

The offense has looked formidable as well. Despite missing a few possessions against the Saints, Christian McCaffrey has looked spry and back to his All-Pro self, combining for over 300 all-purpose yards through two games.

Offensive coordinator Joe Brady has the Carolina offense humming, averaging nearly six yards per play through two games.

While laying more than a touchdown on the road is a tricky case, the Panthers may be building a postseason case early in the year with the potential of a 3-0 start. Factor in the short week for an outmatched rookie quarterback to make his first start, this is going to be a long night for the Texans.

I make this spread Panthers -9, but will avoid the spread and use them as a teaser piece. I will play them in six-point teasers to get their spread to -1.5 and pair them with the Cardinals and Browns on Sunday separately.
