Patrick Mahomes Sets Insane Goal for Chiefs in 2021
It’s always good to set lofty goals, right? Patrick Mahomes certainly thinks so.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback recently told Bleacher Report that he wants to go 20-0 this upcoming NFL season.
“The only record I have my eyes set on breaking, which would be new this year, would be going 20-0,” Mahomes said. “It’s not really a record to be broken I guess you would say -- 19-0 is the record right now -- so being able to go 20-0 and being the first one to do that, that would be awesome.”
It’s not surprising that Mahomes is feeling confident heading into this year. With only three years as a starting quarterback under his belt, Mahomes is already an NFL MVP, a Super Bowl MVP, and has gone to the Super Bowl in two of his three seasons behind center.
As a starting QB, Mahomes has a career record of 44-10 including playoffs, which is good for a winning percentage of 81.48%.
With the NFL expanding its schedule to a 17-game regular season, this year will be the first time that a team can mathematically go 20-0. While it was possible for a team to go 19-0 during the 16-game regular season, no team achieved the feat. The 2007-08 New England Patriots finished the regular season 16-0, but lost to the New York Giants at Super Bowl 42 to finish the season with an 18-1 record.
The Chiefs currently have the highest projected win total at WynnBET at 12.5 wins, but that projection isn’t nearly as lofty as Mahomes’ goal of a 17-0 regular season capped off with a 3-0 postseason run.
Odds have also been released for what team will stay undefeated the longest, and the Chiefs are second on the odds list at +550 behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
They may not have the Chiefs projected to go undefeated, but Kansas City is currently set as the betting favorite to win Super Bowl 56 at +550 odds. If you trust Mahomes to lead the Chiefs to their second Super Bowl victory in three years, you can net $550 on a $100 bet.
Mahomes is also set as the betting favorite to be named NFL's MVP at +650. It would be the second time he'd win the award in his young career.
