Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have had their fair share of ups and downs so far this season. While it appears that the team has righted the ship, they do have a very difficult matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday Night Football in Week 15. The Chargers are just one game behind the Chiefs for the top spot in the AFC West so there is a lot on the line in this game.

As of this writing, the odds at WynnBET Sportsbook for this divisional primetime battle have the visiting Chiefs as four-point favorites on the spread with a full game total of 51.5.

For those of you still on the fence about this game, allow me to share some statistics that might sway your decision.

The biggest stat to consider here is that Patrick Mahomes has never lost to the Chargers on the road at either the StubHub Center or SoFi Stadium. And, surprise, Thursday night’s game takes place on the road in Inglewood. The Kansas City Chiefs have already lost once to the Chargers this season and can ill afford another division loss. If you take Mahomes out of the equation, the Chiefs have actually won four in a row on the road against the Chargers dating back to 2017.

But, Mahomes is leading the charge this season so let’s take a look at how he matches up against the Chargers in Week 15.

As of Week 14, the Chargers have one of the better offenses in the league but their defense has been suspect, to say the least. Their issues are primarily in defending the rush and are actually a fairly competent team at defending the pass. The Chargers rank fourth in opponents passing yards per game at 204.3 YPG and are fifth in opponent pass play percentage. They allow opposing quarterbacks to complete just 63.10 percent of passes and have a sack percentage of 6.46.

So, while the numbers aren’t exactly in favor of Mahomes and this passing game, they could just decide to run over LA. KC isn’t the most explosive rushing team in the NFL but with Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Darrel Williams playing well, it should be enough to open up lanes for Mahomes. Either way, this will be a tight game in my opinion, and well worth a watch on Thursday night.
