It’s been a fun week for New England Patriots fans after Mac Jones won the starting quarterback job and subsequently became an Offensive Rookie of the Year favorite.

Jones, who is +300 to win the award at WynnBET, has gotten a lot of love in the football world over the past week, and rightfully so, but oddsmakers aren’t ready to let the rookie prepare his Hall of Fame speech just yet.

WynnBET has a prop for the NFL’s leader in interceptions thrown, and Patriots fans are going to hate where Jones is ranked. Jones has +1000 odds to be the NFL’s league leader in picks in his rookie season, which is good for fifth place on the odds list. Sam Darnold and Ryan Fitzpatrick (+800) are the favorites.

Welcome to life in the NFL Mac, it’s not going to be easy.

Jones was electric in the preseason, earning the highest ProFootballFocus grade of any offensive rookie.

However, even if Jones really is ready for the NFL, he’s going to experience growing pains just like any other rookie quarterback. Justin Herebrt, who started 15 games as rookie last season, tossed 10 interceptions, while Tua Tagovailoa (five picks in nine starts) and Joe Burrow (five picks in 10 starts) both weren’t immune to turnovers.

Darnold threw 15 interceptions as a rookie in 2018, and while Jones likely won’t be asked to do as much on a run-first Patriots team, oddsmakers know there is a major adjustment from preseason to the regular season in the NFL.

This projection shouldn’t get fans down on Jones (although some undoubtedly will hate it), as he is amongst the leaders in almost every rookie passing prop.

Jones has a chance to push Trevor Lawrence (+275) for the Offensive Rookie of the Year award, and limiting turnovers will go a long way to getting him to the top of that odds list.
