It's fitting that the New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders square off in NFL Preseason Week 3. After all, amidst rumors that Tom Brady was nearly a Raider before former football czar, the king of wreckage and woeful ineptitude, Jon Gruden, nixed the deal. Both clubs recently lost out on Tom Brady's services, and now we get a frustrated war as a result.

Honestly though, this is an intriguing matchup as each franchise is strong in the preseason. The Patriots are 10-3 against the spread (ATS) in their last 13 preseason games, while the Raiders are 10-2 over their last dozen.

Who has the edge as we gear up for the regular season? Here are the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook to help us find out:

Patriots vs Raiders Prediction and Pick

Former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is the head coach of the Raiders now, and there are few things Bill Belichick loves more than embarrassing his former assistants. Shoot, Jarrett Stidham had the most quarterback reps for Las Vegas last week and he was brought into the league by Belichick too!

The New England connections are everywhere in this game, and I think Belichick wants to thrash the Raiders. At the least, they can be a lightning rod for Belichick's anger about being stuck with Mac Jones instead of Tom Brady.

I'm encouraged by the Raiders organization this season and think they can take a step forward, but Belichick is a master as an underdog and I can't ignore his mental advantage over several key elements of the Las Vegas roster.

Give me the Patriots to improve to 9-0 ATS in their last nine preseason games as underdogs as the running game exploits holes in Vegas' defense.

Pick: Patriots +1 (-110)
