College Football season is right around the corner, which means it’s time for some of the top names in the sport to come out with their predictions and hot takes.

Paul Finebaum appeared on ESPN's Get Up today, and said that if Alabama doesn’t win the National Championship this year, it will be the Oklahoma Sooners.

“They have one of the two or three best quarterbacks in the country with Spencer Rattler. They really have a better defense than anyone is giving them credit.” He went on to say, “They will surprise you with their defense, and they have the thing that you need to win a College Football championship; an easy schedule.”

WynnBET has Oklahoma listed fifth on the odds list to win the national championship this year at +600 odds. The four teams ahead of them are Alabama (+200), Clemson (+300), Ohio State (+425), and Georgia (+500).

Nobody has any doubt that Oklahoma will win the Big 12, with its only realistic competition being Iowa State. WynnBET has the Sooners set as -200 favorites to win their conference, but things always seem to get tricky for Oklahoma when they get to the College Football Playoff.

Oklahoma has appeared in the playoff four times since it began in 2014, but it has lost on all four occasions. The Sooners have yet to make it to the National Championship game under the new format.

If Oklahoma is going to succeed this year, it will have to improve its defense as much as Finebaum alluded to. The Sooners ranked 40th in the country last year in yards allowed per game at 373.2, but Florida managed to put up 521 yards of offense against them in the Sugar Bowl.

WynnBET has Oklahoma’s win total for the upcoming season set at 11.5, with the odds on the over set at -150.
