It's PGA Championship week!

Scottie Scheffler captured the first major tournament of the golf year when he won the Masters back in April. Can he win two straight?

Defending champion Phil Mickelson won't be competing at the event this year. He was listed at upwards of 250/1 to win last season. Will we see another longshot winner this year?

Let's take a look at three golfers who I think are the best dark horse, longshot bets to win this year. All odds listed below are via WynnBET Sportsbook.

Longshot Bets to Win the 2022 PGA Championship

Talor Gooch +11000

I pointed out in my betting preview that short game is extremely important this week, specifically how players fare around the greens. With how small and undulated the greens are, golfers are going to be chipping back on to save par quite often.

Well, Talor Gooch is one of the best chippers on Tour. He ranks 7th in strokes gained: around-the-green, and he compliments that well with a 21st ranking in strokes gained: approach. He already has a win on Tour this year at the RSM Classic, so he has the ability to get it done. In my opinion, he's the best value bet at 100/1 or longer.

This will also be a hometown event for him. Southern Hills is located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, his home state. He also attended nearby Oklahoma State University.

Billy Horschel +12000

If you want to talk about a guy with a strong short game, than look no further than Billy Horschel. Entering this week, he ranks 23rd in strokes gained: around-the-green and seventh in strokes gained: putting. Not only that, but he's 22nd in driving accuracy and 27th in greens in regulation.

Add on the fact that he's had two second place finishes already this season, including a runner-up finish at the Zurich Classic in his last start, and you've got yourself a nice little dark horse pick.

If you don't want to bet on him to win, you can tail my pick that I gave out in this week's episode of Green on the Greens (see above). I have Horschel to finish in the top 20 at +300.

Chris Kirk +30000

My Green on the Greens co-host, and golf expert over at FanSided.com, Cody Williams is picking Chris Kirk as his top longshot pick at 300/1. You want to get crazy? Let's get crazy. Here is what he had to say about him in his dark horse picks article.

"Looking at the numbers, I truly don’t understand why the odds are so long for Chris Kirk, but I’m not going to allow that to force me to shy away from it."

"Kirk is seventh in this field over the last 40 rounds in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green as he remains a top-tier ball-striker who also plays well around the greens. The big bugaboo for him remains the putter, where he’s losing strokes per round over that same span. However, this isn’t going to be a putting contest and the ball-striking and saving yourself around the green is going to be paramount."

"While a win might be outlandish for Kirk, seeing him with even +600 odds just to finish in the Top 20 feels like amazing value. He’s played too well overall this year for his number to be this high and that’s certainly catching my eye this week."
