The Northern Trust is set to take place at Liberty National this week, and it will serve as the first round of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Playoffs.

The top 125 golfers in the FedEx Cup standings will compete for the right to advance to next week’s BMW Championship, which will feature the top 70 golfers in the standings at the conclusion of this week’s event.

I’ve already broken down the odds and my top picks to win the event, but let’s have some fun and take a look at a few longshots to win the Northern Trust.

With these being longshots, they’re unlikely to win, so if you decide to tail, be sure to bet only a portion of your normal amount.

All odds listed below are via WynnBET.

Joaquin Niemann +7500 (75/1)

Good ball strikers should thrive at Liberty National, and that’s exactly where Joaquinn Niemann strengths lie. He ranks T16 on the PGA Tour this season in ball striking and 47th in strokes gained: approach the green.

He’s also entering the tournament in good form, as he’s finished 17th or better in three of his last four events including a T2 finish at the Rocket Mortgage Classic last month.

As a cherry on top, Niemann ranks 17th on the Tour in strokes gained: putting this season. Despite the strong field, he’s a great value pick at 75/1.

Emiliano Grillo +15000 (150/1)

If Emiliano Grillo could hit a damn putt, he’d be one of the top golfers on the PGA Tour. He ranks fifth in ball striking and 13th in strokes gained: approach, which will fit perfectly at Liberty National.

He’s come close to winning this season, with a T2 finish at the RBC Heritage and two T8 finishes, one at the Mayakoba Golf Classic and the other at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

My main concern with Grillo is his short game. He ranks 136th in sand save percentage, and 122nd in strokes gained: putting. If he can figure out that aspect of his game this week, he could be in contention come Sunday.

Stewart Cink +20000 (200/1)

Stewart Cink, at the ripe age of 48, is one of only six golfers this PGA Tour season to get two wins. He won the Safeway Open, which served as the opening event of the season, and then won the RBC Heritage in April.

We’re getting the long odds on Cink this week largely due to a regression in his play as of late, missing the cut in two of his last three events, but his numbers this season matchup well with Liberty National so he’s worth a shot at 200/1.

He ranks T27 in ball striking, T23 in strokes gained: approach the green, and 26th in sand save percentage which will prove valuable at a course that has 98 sand traps.
