After an eventful Week 1 of the NFL preseason, the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles will start things off in Week 2 on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. EST in Philadelphia.

The Eagles may play young quarterback Jalen Hurts a little bit more after he attempted just seven passes in the team’s preseason opening loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni is still searching for the first win of his career in the preseason, and he will go up against one of the greatest coaches ever in Bill Belichick.

The Patriots’ quarterback competition between Cam Newton and Mac Jones will continue, and Jones showed why the Pats spent a first-round pick on him in the team’s opener against the Washington Football Team.

Here are the odds for Thursday’s matchup via WynnBET:

Eagles vs. Patriots Spread, Odds and Over/Under

Spread:

Eagles +1.5: -105

Patriots -1.5: -115

Moneyline:

Eagles: +105

Patriots: -125

Over/Under:  38.5 (Over: -110/Under: -110)

Eagles vs. Patriots Betting Trends

  • The Eagles are 0-1 against the spread this preseason and hit the over in their matchup with the Steelers.
  • The Patriots are 1-0 against the spread this preseason.
  • Bill Belichick is 42-38-6 against the spread in his preseason career.
  • The Patriots were one of the best under teams in the NFL last season, 11-5, while the Eagles 9-7 also hit the under more often than the over.

Eagles vs. Patriots Prediction and Pick

The under in preseason games this season is 14-3, but the Patriots and Eagles both were on the higher side of the scoring in their first matchups.

Both teams have something to play for on offense, as the Eagles are evaluating Hurts while New England wants to see if Jones or Newton deserves the starting job to open the season (even though it seems like it will be Cam).

If Sirianni gives Hurts some more snaps with DeVonta Smith and the first-team offense, I think we should see more points coming from Philadelphia.

Belichick doesn’t usually have his teams dominate in the preseason, and considering the Pats picked up a win in Week 1, I’m going to take the Eagles to cover the 1.5-point spread in this one.
