Philip Lindsey Calls Out Drew Lock
Phillip Lindsay burst onto the scene for the Denver Broncos as an undrafted rookie in 2018. He made the Pro Bowl that year and became the first offensive player to earn that honor after going undrafted. Lindsay, though, had the unlucky forutune of being in Denver during three straight losing seasons that were plagued by poor quarterback play.
Drew Lock was Lindsay's QB1 in Denver last season. Lock failed and the Broncos suffered as a result. It's no surprise that they have long-shot +6000 odds on WynnBET to win the Super Bowl next season with Lock as their current starter. However, the team is reportedly looking to upgrade at the position this offseason.
Lock could find himself competing for his starting job heading into the 2021 campaign. Lindsay, now a member of the Houston Texans, had an honest assessment of his former QB.
Lindsay bluntly states that Lock is in a battle "between him and him." The RB also highlights that the QB needs to focus on developing if he wants to keep his job. Lindsay knows all about the hard work it takes to get to the next level and also thrive there. Lock isn't going to have any success handed to him. He has to go out and earn it by getting better.
It's a more direct message Lindsay can send now that he's no longer in Denver. He seems to believe in Lock's ability to improve if he makes it a priority.
The Bronco QB had a season to forget in 2020. He threw for almost as many TDs (16) as INTs (15) and showed zero semblance of a franchise quarterback. This talented team, led by a strong defense, isn't going anywhere with subpar play under center. It's the reason they're weighing their options and putting pressure on Lock this offseason.
The weapons are there for a QB to succeed in Denver. Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, Noah Fant and Tim Patrick provide a promising young receiving corps. It just takes the right player to unlock their potential, and it remains to be seen if Lock is that guy.
