Today is the conclusion of the little two-game series in the NL East between the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves. As the dust still settles from a wild trade deadline, both teams dig in as they battle for Wild Card spots, or in Atlanta’s case a shot at the division.

Zack Wheeler gets the start for the Phillies before they head to face the Juan Soto-less Nationals and Charlie Morton starts for Atlanta with a trip to Queens on the horizon.

Phillies vs. Braves Prediction and Pick

It’s a get-away day for both teams as the Phillies head back home and the Braves follow them up north to New York. That means we have a midweek day game down in Atlanta, which surprisingly can provide some value to a bettor.

It is not the most orthodox method, but you can see how well a team performs in a day game compared to at night. It was just one of the things I wanted to look at for this game and figured it wouldn’t give me much of a lead, but it actually gave me my pick. The Phillies numbers look pretty similar in day games as they do at night. Which isn’t surprising because of course they would, but Atlanta had some interesting numbers when the sun is high in the sky.

The Braves are actually 16-19 in day games compared to 46-22 at night. They have a higher ERA, 3.66 compared to 3.57, a lower OPS, .693 compared to .783 at night.

The offense seems to disappear for day games and they have a losing record because of it. Not to mention, the Braves are likely looking ahead to a huge series with the Mets up next, while the Phillies only have to worry about the Nationals at home. Zack Wheeler has been nails this year, much better than Morton has, and Wheeler has a secret weapon on his side. The sun.

Pick: Phillies +125
