The Philadelphia Phillies hit the road on Thursday to kick off a four-game tilt against the Miami Marlins at LoanDepot Park. Things have not gone the Marlins' way so far this year as they sit in fifth place in the NL East with a 1-4 record. They managed to eke out a 2-1 win over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday. The Phillies are off to a fine start, but were shut out by the Mets 2-0 on Tuesday and might lose their first NL East series.

Kyle Gibson gets the nod for the Phillies to start this series while the Marlins are handing the ball to Sandy Alcantara. Both will be making their second start of the year. But, they have very different results in their debut games.

Phillies vs. Marlins Prediction and Pick

Kyle Gibson had one of the best debuts of any starting pitcher in 2022. In a 4-2 win over the Athletics, Gibson spun seven shutout innings. He struck out ten and didn’t walk a single batter. He ended the day with a 0.00 ERA and a 0.29 WHIP. It took him just 82 pitches to take care of 22 batters and he moved to 1-0 on the year.

Alcantara, meanwhile, labored through five innings of work while giving up two earned runs. He stuck out four but walked five and displayed clear control issues. Frankly, he’s lucky the Giants' offense didn’t punish him more. While it took Gibson 82 pitches to get through seven innings, it took Alcantara 83 to go five.

While the Marlins are 4-1 against the spread, they are not winning straight up and I don’t think Alcantara will help them change that. The Phillies are a good bet as road dogs to win this game outright on the back of superior pitching.

Pick: Phillies ML +110
