The 23-43 Washington Nationals have lost five straight ahead of a double-header with the surging 33-31 Philadelphia Phillies today. Game 1 is at 1:05 PM EST.

Ranger Suarez gets the nod for Philadelphia and brings a 4.40 ERA into the contest. He's allowed two or fewer runs in three straight, but is looking for his first win in over a month.

Washington will counter with Joan Adon, who got shelled for eight runs in three innings by Miami in his last start. He's 1-10 with a 6.95 ERA as he's been perhaps the worst starter in MLB this year.

Can Adon turn things around to snap Washington's losing streak or will Philly stay hot and notch a victory behind Suarez?

Phillies vs Nationals Prediction and Pick

You know the saying "It's not how many times you fall that count, it's how many times you get back up?" Washington starter Joan Adon is putting that theory to the test. He's made 13 career starts - the Nationals are 1-12 in those games.

It looked like he was turning a corner before a disastrous eight-run start against Miami last week. The Phillies lead the league in OPS against right-handed pitchers the last two weeks and should have no problem knocking Adon off his horse in dramatic fashion.

Philadelphia is 5-1 in Ranger Suarez's six road outings this season as he's compiled a 3.68 ERA in that stretch. He's not superb and struggles with command, but he's miles ahead of Adon and the pitiful bullpen supporting him. Adon leads the NL in walks allowed and should give the Phillies' potent lineup plenty of chances to score.

As long as the Monstars from Space Jam don't steal Bryce Harper, Rhys Hoskins, and Kyle Schwarber's talent before first pitch, I expect a blowout.

Roll with the visitors to improve to 13-2 over their last 15 and extend Adon's pitiful streak of futility.

Pick: Phillies -1.5 (-130)
