Phillies Win Total Prediction Could Have Value After Big Offseason
By Matt De Saro
The Philadelphia Phillies were among the busier teams in the NL East this offseason and oddsmakers have noticed. The Phillies' current win total at WynnBET Sportsbook is 86.5 after an 82 win 2021 season. The teams in the NL East have been busy this offseason and I expect the division to be air-tight. So, will Philly make good on this season-long prediction?
How to Bet Phillies in 2022 MLB Season
Right off the bat, I like what the Phillies did to boost the power in their lineup. Philly ranked 15th in home runs last year and 14th in slugging. While not terrible, the Phillies needed to find some more pop at the plate. They did just that by adding Kyle Schrawber and Nick Castellanos to bolster the lineup. They are a fearsome group, led by MVP Bryce Harper, that could bring this offense from a top 20 squad into the top 12.
But, the new-look lineup isn’t even the exciting part of this team. It is their pitching. Their rotation has improved tremendously over the last few years and I think it could be a top 10 group if all goes well. Zack Wheeler is coming off a breakout season where he finished second in Cy Young voting behind the Brewers’ Corbin Burnes.
The Phillies also saw a breakout season from Ranger Suarez. He was a revelation for the Phillies and finished the year with a 1.36 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 107 strikeouts. I am very interested to see where he goes from here. The Phillies also have Aaron Nola. And despite a terrible 2021 season, Nola is a quality arm and I expect him to get back into form this year.
So, in summation, the Phillies have the reigning NL MVP in Harper and the runner up for the Cy Young in Wheeler. They brought in some other bats to help Harper light up the scoreboard. Philly also has at least two other quality arms in the starting lineup. While the division itself will be great, I still think this team has the chops to go over 86.5 wins. I think the preseason is the time to pull the trigger on this bet as I expect Philly to come out of the gate hot.
