The early part of the season hasn’t gone quite the way Pittsburgh or Chicago has wanted. Both teams are straddling the .500 line and need a string of wins to get to a solid place in the standings. With third place in the division on the line in this series, which division rival will come out on top?

Pirates vs. Cubs Prediction and Pick

This game is fairly simple to figure out. Both teams have done well as underdogs this season. The Cubs are 8-2 against the run line as an underdog and the Pirates are 4-0 as home underdogs. The issue for Pittsburgh is that this game is being played at Wrigley Field and the Pirates are 1-5 against the run line as an away underdog.

Chicago is 5-1 on the run line at home, making this a perfect storm for a Cubs win.

The Cubs are putting Drew Smyly on the mound, who has an ERA of 0.00. Smyly has been good in his starts this season and can certainly thrive against a Pirates team that strikes out at the 8th highest rate in the league. Unless the Pirates can finally figure out their road woes, chalk this one up to the Cubbies.

Lean: Cubs -1.5 (+115)
