Pirates vs. Dodgers Prediction and Odds for Wednesday, June 1 (Pittsburgh has Value Again)
By Reed Wallach
The Pirates are giving the Dodgers more trouble than any other team in the big leagues. No, seriously.
Pittsburgh has taken 4 of 5 games against the Dodgers this season, and now will look to complete a 3 game sweep over the 2020 World Series champions. Despite being out gunned, the Pirates have outperformed expectations against the vaunted Dodgers.
Can the Pirates do what was seemingly unthinkable and pull off the sweep? Let's check out the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook:
Pirates vs. Dodgers Odds, Run Line, Total
Run Line:
- Pirates: +1.5 (+100)
- Dodgers: -1.5 (-120)
Moneyline:
- Pirates: +220
- Dodgers: -245
Total: 8.5 (Over -120/Under +100)
Pirates vs. Dodgers Prediction and Pick
The Pirates have value once again on Wednesday as Jose Quintana gives the team a unique look as left handed pitching has given the Dodgers more fits than usual this season. Los Angeles is 11th in OPS against southpaws this season and Quintana has found more success at generating soft contact, less than 5% of fly balls hit vs. him are getting out of the ball park. As long as Quintana keeps nearly half of balls put in play on the ground, he will be in good shape against Los Angeles.
On the other side, the Dodgers will send out Mitch White to avoid the sweep. White will operate as an opener for the Dodgers (he's made 2 "starts" this season) and he brings middling results to the mound. He has an ERA of 4.60 and a WHIP (Walks, Hits per Inning Pitched) of 1.213, meaning he's allowing more than 1 hitter on base per inning pitched.
The Dodgers have a loaded bullpen, but may be a bit limited after Brusdar Graterol and David Price each pitched more than inning on Tuesday night.
I see several paths to how this game goes over the total, but I think that we may need to adjust expectations and take the Pirates at this price.
LEAN: Pirates +220, OVER 8.5
