The Pittsburgh Pirates took Game 1 of their four-game series in Miami last night vs. the Marlins behind a stellar start from Mitch Keller.

Keller went seven and gave up just one run in the 5-1 win. The victory brings the Pirates to 37-50, now currently on a three game winning streak. Miami drops to 41-44; desperately trying to claw their way over .500. They’ll look to bounce back tonight with Daniel Castano on the mound.

Castano makes his sixth start this season, he is 1-2 with a 3.60 ERA, while the Pirates counter with Chris Stratton; making his first start of the season in what will likely be a bullpen game.

Pirates vs. Marlins Prediction and Pick

Stratton starts for Pittsburgh in what was Roansy Contreras’s spot in the rotation. Contreras was sent down to the minors presumably just to skip a start and keep his innings low. There would be no performance reason to send Contreras down.

The Pirates have the 27th-ranked bullpen in the majors which is not a good sign for a team going with a bullpen game. Stratton used to be a starter, but his longest outing this season was 2.0 innings. He is 5-4 with a 5.14 ERA.

Both teams are 6-4 in their last 10 and Miami has a sub-three ERA over that stretch. That should be enough for the Marlins to take the win against a lackluster Pittsburgh bullpen, especially with Bryan Reynolds on the 10-day IL with a strained oblique.

Reynolds, the 2021 All-Star, leads Pittsburgh in most every offensive category and has been very solid in center field. His 15 home runs and .808 OPS will be missed in the Buccos' lineup. His loss may factor into the low total even with an uninspiring pitching matchup.

Pick: Marlins -145
