There was so much excitement in Pittsburgh just five days ago. Oneil Cruz had arrived and the Pittsburgh Pirates had won four of five. Now that is dampened considerably by the weekend down in Tampa. The Bucs got swept and Cruz’s OPS sits at .607.

Now Pittsburgh makes a stop in the nation's capital to face the Nationals and Erick Fedde. The Pirates have yet to announce a starter for tonight's game.

You can find odds for this matchup in Washington DC at WynnBET Sportsbook.

Pirates vs. Nationals Prediction and Pick

The Pirates have yet to announce their starter for tonight's game, but it seems to be headed in the direction of either a bullpen game or Osvaldo Bido making a spot start from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Bido has never appeared in a major league game and the 26-year-old has a 4.86 ERA this year in the minors. He does not appear on the Pirates top 30 prospect list on MLB.com.

The Pirates bullpen may not be a much better option. The Pittsburgh relievers have an ERA of 4.55 this season, good for 23rd in the majors.

The 29-year-old Fedde is 5-5 this season with a 4.46 ERA and is issuing over four walks per nine innings. That could be a recipe for success for this Pirates lineup that struggles to hit. Maybe Oneil Cruz, who is yet to take ball four, could even earn a free pass.

Neither team has been anything to write home about this year and both fan bases are just hoping that their star outfielders can stay in the same uniform through this year’s trade deadline, Bryan Reynolds for Pittsburgh and Juan Soto for Washington. That doesn’t mean we can’t still make some money off of them in the meantime. This feels like the Nationals have the more stable situation on the mound and that is enough for me.

Pick: Nationals -140
