Pirates vs. Padres Prediction and Odds for Sunday, May 29 (Electric Pitching Matchup Gives Under Value)
By Joe Summers
We've got a rubber match today between the 19-26 Pittsburgh Pirates and 29-17 San Diego Padres after the clubs split the first two games of the series.
First pitch is at 4:10 PM EST, and we've got a doozy of a pitching matchup as Roansy Contreras takes on MacKenzie Gore.
Contreras is a converted reliever, but threw five scoreless innings against the Rockies in his only start of the year. At just 22 years old, he's given up just one run in his last 11 innings and showcased impressive ability as he quickly flew through the minor leagues.
Gore is a youngster too at 23 and has been nothing short of sensational this year. He has a 2.06 ERA in seven appearances and looks like a foundational rotation piece moving forward.
Which youthful starter has the edge today? Can Contreras build off his impressive outing against Colorado or will Gore give the Padres a series victory? Should bettors look to the total instead of a side?
Let's take a gander at the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook to answer those questions ahead of this Pirates vs Padres series finale matchup:
Pirates vs Padres Odds, Run Line and Total

- Padres -1.5 (+112)

Total:

Pirates vs Padres Prediction and Pick
These are two of the best under teams in baseball and I love the value we're getting on the total today. Both Contreras and Gore have been fantastic and ooze with potential. It wouldn't surprise me to see this game go scoreless into the middle innings, and I think each starter will want to show they're the better youngster.
Pittsburgh's offensive deficiencies are well-documented, but perhaps less known is how bad San Diego hits against right-handed pitchers. They're 28th in OPS against righty's this month and that's helped the under become a go-to bet thanks to their fantastic pitching staff.
On the year, the under is 15-6-1 in Padres' home games and it's 4-0-1 in their last five overall. It's 10-4-1 in Pittsburgh's last 15, including hitting in both of the first two games of this series.
With two pitchers I like and two struggling lineups, I expect the under train to keep rolling. Let's sit back and enjoy this phenomenal battle between two of the best pitching prospects in baseball, shall we?
Pick: Under 7.0 (+100)
