Pirates Will Continue to Excel in This One Specific Stat Against Brewers Tonight
My name’s Iain MacMillan and I’m betting on one the worst teams in Major League Baseball tonight.
Well, sort of.
I’m not going to be as bold as to take the Pittsburgh Pirates on the moneyline. They’re +185 underdogs on WynnBET against the Milwaukee Brewers (-240) tonight, and I'm not courageous enough to take a shot on that.
What I am going to do instead, is bet on them to show the same discipline at the plate that they’ve shown all year. While they do have the worst record in baseball and have a run differential of -150, they’ve been one of the best teams when it comes to not striking out.
The Pirates rank third in the majors in team strikeout percentage, striking out on only 21.8% of plate appearances. The Houston Astros (19.4%) and Toronto Blue Jays (21.4%) are the only teams this season that are better than Pittsburgh in that statistic.
Eric Lauer is set to get the start for the Brewers, and WynnBET has his player prop for strikeouts set at 4.5. The under 4.5 Ks at +125 odds is my favorite bet of the night.
Lauer has been fantastic for the Brew Crew this season, accumulating a 3.78 ERA through 14 appearances and 10 starts. He’s averaging 9.0 strikeouts per nine innings, but he’s struggled in this department as of late. He has failed to surpass four strikeouts in three of his last four starts, two of which came against this very same Pirates team.
Tonight’s game is the first of a three game series set to take place in Milwaukee between these two teams.
The Pirates may stink when it comes to scoring and preventing runs, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find good spots to make some money on them. I have under 4.5 strikeouts for Eric Lauer locked in tonight at +125 odds.
