The Pitt Panthers and Virginia Tech Hokies are the only two ACC Coastal teams that remain unbeaten in conference play. That will change on Saturday when the pair go head to head at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virginia. The two are tied atop the ACC Coastal standings, but with very different stat lines as we will get to.

Pitt is a 4.5 point favorite heading into Week 7 despite trying to shake off a three-game losing streak while VT was busy getting beat by Notre Dame. The game was suspiciously close, however, with a final score of 32-29.

So, which of these ACC rivals will come out on top and cash our week 7 bets? Let’s break down and examine the betting odds from WynnBET and decide.

Pittsburgh vs. Virginia Tech Prediction and Pick

This is one of the more important games on the Week 7 schedule in terms of standings. Pitt and VT sit atop the list of ACC Coastal teams and the winner of this game will take on sole possession of the lead. Both teams are also coming off tough losses and will need a strong showing to keep pace with the Atlantic division.

VT really got the worst of it last weekend, coming 3 points shy of knocking off No. 14 ranked Notre Dame and moving to 4-2 on the season. QB Braxton Burmeister completed just 50% of his 30 passes, failing to reach 200 yards or pass for a touchdown. The running game wasn’t much better as Burmeister was actually the team’s leading rusher with 49 yards and a TD. Looking at the box score, it’s amazing they scored any points at all. But with the help of one defensive TD and three field goals, the Hokies at least managed to cover against the Irish.

VT was also betrayed by their defense against ND. On average, the Hokies have allowed just 18.6 points per game and 341 yards to oppose offenses. The usual strong defense allowed ND to run for almost 200 yards last weekend and our offensive TDs. So, can they get back on track against the visiting Panthers?

I am thinking no.

The problem with that plan is obvious when you look at the Panthers’ offensive stats on the year. Despite not being ranked, the Panthers have one of the best statistical offenses in the nation right now. Pitt ranks 6th in the nation in yards per game and 3rd in points per game right alongside Ohio State. VT’s Top-50 defense doesn’t seem so impressive anymore. With an offense that ranks 73rd in total points and 104th in total yards, it’s hard to see how VT covers this game, let alone comes away with a win.

VT has played some hard games against hard teams but Pittsburgh has the edge on both sides of the ball, even on the road.

Pick: Pittsburgh -4.5 (-110)
