Now, add "betting favorite to win the national championship" to their resume.

Purdue is Deserving of Being March Madness Favorites

Purdue scheduled itself a challenging out-of-conference schedule to start its season, and the Boilermakers have passed each test with flying colors. Their biggest wins came against then ranked No. 18 UNC and then ranked No. 5 Villanova. They boast big wins against Florida State and Iowa, taking down the Hawkeyes 77-70 their last time out.

If their undefeated record doesn't impress you, maybe their statistics will. Here is where they rank in a few key metrics:

  • Sixth in average scoring margin (+25.6)
  • First in effective field goal percentage (62.2%)
  • First in offensive efficiency (1.258)
  • Third in rebounding rate (61.2%)

Purdue doesn't rely on just one player for its success. Four different players average double-digit points and more than five rebounds per game. Guard Jaden Ivey leads the group with 15.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game and he's quickly put himself in the conversation for Naismith Player of the Year.

I think we're looking at a team that's a near lock to be a No. 1 seed in this season's March Madness tournament.
