There are several backfields in the NFL that are tough to figure out on a weekly basis for bettors and fantasy owners, but the Miami Dolphins’ backfield may no longer be in that conversation.

Veteran running back Raheem Mostert, who has a connection to head coach Mike McDaniel from their time with the San Francisco 49ers, has monopolized touches from Chase Edmonds, who came into the season as the lead back (at least in Week 1).

Edmonds, who was a big offseason signing for Miami, saw just three opportunities in Week 5 against the New York Jets, tallying one carry for one yard.

Yikes.

Does this mean bettors can fully trust Mostert? Based on the last few games, it looks that way. With Tua Tagovailoa and Teddy Bridgewater both in the league’s concussion protocol, the Dolphins are going to need their running game in a big way, and that could make Mostert a valuable player to have in fantasy or in the prop market.

Raheem Mostert vs. Chase Edmonds Season Stat Comparison

Carries:

  • Mostert: 57
  • Edmonds: 29

Rushing Yards:

  • Mostert: 260
  • Edmonds: 86

Targets (Receptions):

  • Mostert: 12 (7)
  • Edmonds: 13 (8)

Receiving Yards:

  • Mostert: 65
  • Edmonds: 68

Touchdowns:

  • Mostert: 1
  • Edmonds: 3

Let’s be honest, Edmonds only stayed relevant as an anytime touchdown scorer this season, and he isn’t even dominating receiving work like he has in previous seasons with the Arizona Cardinals.

If Mostert is going to see similar volume in the passing game and handle the majority of the rushes, he’s the back to have in Miami.

The last two games have been clearly all Mostert, as he carried the ball 15 times for 69 yards in Week 4, and then followed that up with a 18-carry, 113-yard performance in Week 5. Mostert had more rushing yards against the New York Jets than Edmonds has all season… in 11 fewer carries.

If Mostert’s prop numbers come in low in Week 6 as if this is still a timeshare, jump on them immediately.
