For those wondering how many points Carson Wentz is worth to sports bettors, the answer is two.

That is based upon how many points the odds shifted after Wentz was placed on the COVID-19 protocol list Tuesday. The game opened with the Colts as 8.5-point favorites but at the time of writing the spread is now 6.5.

Because Wentz is unvaccinated, he must go through additional hoops to get back on the field. However, those rules were adjusted on Tuesday so it is unclear if Wentz will be able to return for this game or not at this point. If he does, he will return without having practiced at all this week and would not be eligible to return to the team until Sunday morning at the earliest. 

If he is unable to go, the Colts will have to turn to Sam Ehlinger to make his first career start in Wentz’s stead. 

With both teams still in contention for a playoff spot, this game could be a lot better than many expect.

Raiders vs. Colts Prediction and Pick

The Colts are currently holding down the sixth spot in the AFC playoff picture and basically need to win out to hold onto their spot. The Raiders are in the running for the final Wild-Card spot but, due to tiebreakers, are 10th in the conference. 

While most teams would be devastated by losing a QB down the home stretch, the Colts are a run-first team and won’t have to change their game plan much. The goal remains the same. Get the ball to Jonathan Taylor. Reset and repeat.

The NFL’s leading rusher has 1,626 yards and is the biggest reason why the Colts are 9-6. As opposed to most teams who rely on their passing attack, the Colts don’t have that problem. 

As Donnavan Smoot pointed out earlier in the week, the Raiders are a below-average team against the rush and cough up more than 115 yards per game on average. Taylor has proven to be matchup-proof and the Raiders present a good matchup for him. 

A win against the Raiders and a Dolphins loss would guarantee the Colts the No. 5 seed in the AFC. This will be a big motivator and will allow Indy to rest its starters in Week 18 and head into the playoffs fresh.
