The 2022 NFL preseason will kick off with the league’s Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 4 between the Las Vegas Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars

The Hall of Fame game is a fun event, but it usually yields below average play, as most starters sit out the game and it is also the first game action players have had since the previous season.

The Raiders, who made the playoffs in the AFC last season, have a new head coach in Josh McDaniels and a new shiny weapon at receiver in Davante Adams. Jacksonville also has a new head coach, Doug Pederson, who will be tasked with developing Trevor Lawrence in the 2022 season.

I’m not saying you have to bet on the first NFL game of the season, but why not?

Here are the odds via WynnBET for the Hall of Fame Game:

Raiders vs. Jaguars Odds, Spread and Total

Spread:

  • Raiders -1.5 (-120)
  • Jaguars +1.5 (-110)

Moneyline:

  • Raiders: -125
  • Jaguars: +105

Total:

  • 33 (Over -115/Under -115)

Hall of Fame Game Betting Trends

  • Over the last 15 Hall of Fame Games, favorites are 7-5-3 against the spread.
  • The UNDER is 7-8 in the last 15 Hall of Fame Games.
  • Last year’s Hall of Fame Game was a 16-3 win by the Pittsburgh Steelers over the Dallas Cowboys.
  • Every Hall of Fame Game has combined for less than 40 points since 2014.

Raiders vs. Jaguars Prediction and Pick

Betting on the preseason usually comes down to whether or not the coaches actually want to win the game, and I’m going to stay away from that with two coaches in their first season with their respective teams.

Instead, I think there is value on the UNDER, as Doug Pederson is 8-4-1 on UNDERs in his preseason career, and Hall of Fame Games have been low-scoring matchups as of late.

With both teams likely playing only backups, the total at 33 is too high for my liking.

Here are the combined scores of some of the recent Hall of Fame Games:

  • 2021: 19 points
  • 2020: No Game
  • 2019: 24 points
  • 2018: 33 points
  • 2017: 38 points
  • 2016: No Game
  • 2015: 17 points
  • 2014: 30 points

Five of the last six Hall of Fame Games have landed on or gone under this number. With backups running the show, I’ll expect that to continue in 2022.

Lean: UNDER 33 (-115)
