This is quite possibly a matchup of the two best two-win teams in the NFL. Neither the Las Vegas Raiders or the New Orleans Saints have their first-round pick in 2023. They are both trying to win games in 2022, and have had a tough time doing it.

The Raiders handled their business against the Texans in Week 7 with a 38-20 win. The Saints found themselves in the loss column again, 42-34 to the Cardinals. Vegas thinks that the Vegas Raiders are slight favorites on the road, so let’s look at the odds.

Raiders vs. Saints Odds, Spread and Total

New Orleans and Las Vegas Betting Trends

  • New Orleans is 2-5 ATS
  • The Over is 5-2 in New Orleans’ games
  • Over is 4-0 in last four New Orleans games
  • Las Vegas is 3-3 ATS
  • Over is 4-0 in last four Las Vegas games

Raiders vs. Saints Prediction and Pick

New Orleans has been without their starting QB for much of the year and had their defensive coordinator replace Sean Payton in the offseason. Yet, they have scored the third most offensive touchdowns this season, the same number as Philadelphia and Cincinnati. This team is still creative in their use of Taysom Hill and has an effective offense, but it’s Dennis Allen’s defense that is the problem.

That defense allows 28.6 points per game, the second worst in the NFL behind Detroit’s historically bad unit. They haven’t been particularly weak against the run or the pass, just bad enough against both to give up a ton of points. The bright spot is their third down defense that only allows a 33.3% conversion rate, the fourth best in the NFL. In Vegas’s last three games they are converting third downs at 45%. They are 2-1 in that stretch with a one point loss to the Chiefs. If New Orleans can get off the field and not let Derek Carr and Davante Adams extend drives, then they can give themselves a shot.

I lean towards the Saints if I’m picking this game against the spread, but the easier bet is to just take the over and trust the trends. The over is 4-0 in the Saints last four and 4-0 in the Raiders last four games.

Pick: Over 47.5 (-110)
