Rams vs. 49ers Spread Shifts Towards Struggling San Francisco

The Arizona Cardinals moved to 8-1 on the season after they dismantled the San Francisco 49ers 37-17. While this doesn’t sound like a huge deal on its face, it's important to remember that the Cardinals were playing with Colt McCoy under center. Not only was Kyler Murray out with an injury, but DeAndre Hopkins was a late scratch. Things for the Cardinals then went from bad to worse after just one carry, when Chase Edmunds was forced out due to injury. 

The stage was set for the 3-4 Niners to upset the 7-1 Cardinals that effectively were playing with one arm behind their backs. That didn’t happen. Somehow Kyle Shanahan was unable to capitalize, and the Cardinals looked like a team at full-strength. The Niners dropped to 3-5 and have yet to win a home game in four tries. 

That brings us to this week when the Niners host the 7-2 L.A. Rams who are 4-0 away. The odds opened with LA as 3.0 point favorites but have have been fluctuating between 3.5 and 4.0 since. WynnBET Sportsbook currently has the spread in favor of the Rams as 3.5 point favorites.  

Does this mean the value has shifted to the 49ers? Not entirely. 

The fact remains that not only have the 49ers failed to win a game at home, they are also 0-4 against the spread (ATS) at Levi’s Stadium.  One difference between this game and those was that the Niners were favored in all four of their ATS losses and outright lost all four. 

This is a textbook bounce back game for the Rams who were embarrassed by the Titans last week and fell behind the Cardinals in the division standings. Arizona now sits two games ahead of Los Angeles due to holding the tiebreaker, and the Rams can ill-afford another slip-up. The Rams still make sense at -3.5 or -4.0 considering how futile the 49ers' efforts have been at home this season.
