The Texas Rangers are back in action on Saturday afternoon at Oakland Coliseum when they take on their AL West rivals, the Oakland Athletics. This is Game 3 of a four games series starting on Thursday evening.

The Rangers are a bad team, but they won the first two games by a combined score of 12-6 against the worst team in the division. The Rangers are now 4-1 against the A’s and the odds are in favor of another Ranger win tonight. Texas has clawed its way out of fourth place in the division and could challenge the Angels for second place if the stars align. Another win today against the A’s is a good first step towards that goal.

Saturday’s weather report suggests some moderate winds of 10+ mph will be blowing out to centerfield today. but with the big dimensions at the Coliseum, it may not make much of a difference.

Rangers vs. Athletics Prediction and Pick

Wind might be a factor in this game, but the A’s have one of the worst offenses in the league and are not likely to take advantage of it. They have the league’s worst batting average at .211, rank 28th in runs per game, and strike out an average of 8.69 times per game. They don’t draw walks, score runs, or do anything well on offense according to their current metrics.

Their pitching has been average, but they'll start a very volatile Zach Logue today at home. Logue was lit up by a very bad Seattle Mariners team Monday to the tune of seven runs in 4 ⅔ innings. He gave up three home runs and six walks along the way. It was by far his worst start of the year, but he’s been far from impressive otherwise. He managed to shut out a pitiful Tigers team and was touched twice by the Twins for a couple of runs in his other two starts this month.

Logue gets another crack at a bad team today with the Rangers offense ranking 26th in batting average and 17th in runs per game. While Logue has been up and down, Rangers starter today Taylor Hearn has been a lot more consistent. Unfortunately, he’s been consistently bad; giving up three or more runs in five of his last seven games. Hearn’s strikeout to walk rate is also pretty poor at 11:15 so far in May.

This game is a bit of a toss-up as the odds suggest but I trust Logue more at home than Hearn with his 10.57 ERA on the road.

Pick: Athletics -105 ML
