The No. 2 team in the Metropolitan Division will take on the No. 1 team in the Pacific division tonight when the puck drops at Rogers Place between the New York Rangers and Edmonton Oilers.

The New York Rangers will be playing their third game of a four-game West Coast road trip. The Rangers suffered a tough overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday, losing 3-2.

Edmonton has won three straight games and will go for number four tonight. The Oilers ridiculously talented scorers continue to dominate the league, winning each of their last two games by three goals.

Rangers vs. Oilers Prediction and Pick

The Edmonton Oilers have the best power play in the NHL, finding the back of the net at an insane clip of 46.4 percent with the man advantage. When your power play unit is headlined by Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, it’s not surprising.

The New York Rangers power play is firing at just 19.4 percent, not bad, but miles away. The Rangers penalty killing unit also sits behind the Oilers, killing penalties at 86.1 percent to Edmonton’s 88.9 percent.

If special teams play a large role in tonight’s game, it’s hard to back the Rangers.

New York appears to be sitting goalie Igor Shesterkin and putting Alexandar Georgiev between the pipes tonight. That doesn’t help the Rangers chances as Georgiev has an unimpressive .873 save percentage this season.

The Rangers are 31st in the NHL in shots per game and 27th in goals per game, so if Georgiev gets peppered by the Oilers (averaging 32.4 shots and 4.22 goals), New York may have to change their game plan to keep up.

I’m backing the Oilers to win big tonight.
