One of the biggest surprises in the NBA in the 2022-23 season has been the San Antonio Spurs, who are 5-2 with wins over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Philadelphia 76ers and Chicago Bulls.

San Antonio is looking to keep its strong start overall and against the spread going on Wednesday against the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors are coming off a dominant win at home against the Atlanta Hawks.

These teams are complete opposites in their style of play, as San Antonio (third in pace) loves to push the action while Toronto (28th in pace) is a much more methodical team. Can Gregg Popovich’s young squad shock another playoff team from last season?

Raptors vs. Spurs Prediction and Pick

There are a couple of key injuries to monitor in this game, as the Spurs have Keldon Johnson (questionable) and Jeremy Sochan (questionable) as players who could miss this game. Devin Vassell has already been ruled out.

For the Raptors, Fred VanVleet (questionable) would be a major loss if he can’t suit up.

After getting blown out on opening night, the Spurs have either won five of their last six games, with their only loss coming to the Wolves.

Toronto’s defense (11th in the NBA) is going to make things tough on this young Spurs team, but Popovich’s group comes into this game with the No. 11 offensive rating in the league.

If Johnson suits up, I really like the Spurs to at least keep this game close. As home underdogs this season, San Antonio is already 2-1 ATS. The Raptors have been a tough team for me to get a read on, losing badly to the Sixers one night and dominating the Hawks the next.

With the Spurs starting hot, this feels like a few too many points to give them at home.
