Rays vs. Blue Jays Prediction and Pick for Saturday, July 2 (Bet on Pitching up North)
By Josh Yourish
Saturday could be a pivotal day in the AL East and AL Wild Card race, so it is fitting that for Game 1 of a double-header between Toronto and Tampa Bay, we get a stellar matchup on the mound. In the early game, Tampa Bay goes with Shane McClanahan. He is opposed by Kevin Gausman for the Blue Jays.

Rays vs. Blue Jays Prediction and Pick
This one will have the feel of a playoff game with this type of pitching matchup. You can just envision Game 1 of the wild card series with these two on the mound. We’re a long way out from that, but McClanahan and Gausman are establishing themselves as the No. 1 option in their respective staff.
The lefty McClanahan has not allowed more than two earned runs in a start since the beginning of May. The most runs he has given up in a start is just three. He is sitting on a 1.77 ERA that has been dropping since the start of June. His last time up in the rotation, he shoved, going seven innings giving up just one run and punching 10 tickets right back to the dugout.
Guasman’s career renaissance in San Francisco has carried over to Toronto. He has a 2.93 ERA through 15 starts, but his indicator stats have been even better than that. Gausman is sporting a 1.70 fielding independent pitching and a 6.47 K/BB ratio, both better numbers than McClanahan. Oh and last time out, Gausman outdid McClanahan’s great start going seven scoreless and striking out 10.
We have a pitcher’s duel brewing in Canada.
Pick: UNDER 7.5 (-130)
