The Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers begin a series up in Wisconsin with identical records, 58-50. Recently the Brewers playoff hopes have looked like Bernie Brewer going down his slide.

They are now one game out of the third Wild Card spot in the NL. Tampa Bay occupies third place in their division, but currently has the second AL Wild Card spot.

Tonight, Jimmy Yacabonis and his 9.00 ERA make the start for the Rays and Freddy Peralta (4.46 ERA) goes for the Brewers.

Let’s take a look at the odds given to us by our friends over at WynnBET.

Rays vs. Brewers Odds, Run Line and Total

Run Line

  • Rays +1.5 (-145)
  • Brewers -1.5 (+120)

Moneyline

  • Rays +151
  • Brewers -161

Total

  • 8.0 (Over -110 / Under -110)

Rays vs. Brewers Prediction and Pick

Jimmy Yacobonis has only made one outing with the Rays since coming over from Miami, but he gave up three earned runs and recorded only two outs. This will be his first start of the year, but is clearly being used in an opener role. It will be a bullpen game for the Rays, something they are more familiar with than most.

The Brewers may have to use their bullpen a lot too, with Freddy Peralta making his second start since returning from injury. His first outing back he only went 3.2 innings and gave up two runs. It took him 72 pitches to nearly get through four innings. Peralta has a 4.46 ERA, but a 2.19 fielding independent pitching which might point to future success. He has only pitched 42.1 innings this year and his ERA may begin to regress towards his FIP.

However, he doesn’t seem to be settled in since his return and until we see that, I wouldn’t feel good trusting him. Both guys starting on the mound need to get comfortable, either with a new team or back on the mound, and to me that is a recipe for offense.

The Brewers slide might come to an end, but either way, Bernie Brewer will get a lot of use out of his slide tonight.

Pick: Over 8.0 (-110)
