The Chicago Cubs continue to outperform expectations early in the season, jumping out to a 6-5 start in 2022.

Now, The Cubs turn to free agent signing Marcus Stroman, who will look to improve after two shaky starts already on his ledger. He will face a stiff test in the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday night. Who has the edge?

The Rays are perennial contenders in the American League under manager Kevin Cash, but are 6-6 to start the season, let's see if they can grab a win against Chicago on the road.

Here are the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook:

Rays vs. Cubs Odds, Run Line, Total

Run Line:

  • Rays: -1.5 (+140)
  • Cubs: +1.5 (-165)

Moneyline:

  • Rays: -110
  • Cubs: +100

Total: 9 (Over -105/Under -115)

Rays vs. Cubs Prediction and Pick

This matchup seems to be underrating the Rays, who will be giving the ball to a more than capable right hander in Drew Rasmussen. While his strikeout rate is down this season, only five per nine innings which is more than two punch outs from last season, this Cubs team has been heavily reliant on home runs which is unsustainable.

Rasmussen is typically a ground ball pitcher and is due for some regression in that department. He has only generated a ground ball on a third of the balls put in play, but is typically closer to half. With the Cubs irregular home run hitting, and Rasmussen's likelihood of getting more contact on the ground is making them a bit undervalued given the historical sample size.

I think the Rays starter and the far superior bullpen shows up at Wrigley Field while Stroman's iffy control this season (four walks through nine innings so far) can prove costly against the 11th best team in terms of on-base percentage.

LEAN: Rays -110, UNDER 9
